The Quilter's Needle offers different levels of hand-guided machine quilting.

Each level is based on how much quilting and detail you would like on your quilt.

Requirements

Quilt Preparation

Have your quilt backing pressed. Please remove selvedges and ensure that the backing seam runs horizontally. Mark the right side of both top and backing with a safety pin if needed.

Backing

We usually carry in stock around 25 different 240cm wide backing fabrics. Of course, you may supply your own if you’d prefer. Please ensure that there is at least 10cm excess on all sides to allow for stretching in the frame.

Batting/Wadding

We prefer to supply the batting as it comes straight off the roll and is wrinkle free. It is much cheaper for you if you are posting your quilt to us also. We use Wool blend 2.4m wide and 3m wide, Cotton blend 2.4m wide and 100% polyester batting 1.4m wide. If you supply the batting it must be at least 10cm larger on all sides to allow for stretching the quilt in the frame. Please, no Mountain Mist.

Thread

We use Signature, cotton wrapped polyester thread and 100% cotton thread on the top and bottom of your quilts. The same colour is used top and bottom. The cost of the thread is included in the quilting except if you desire a colour change. You will then be charged.

Services and Prices

Service	Price	Comments
Basting	$13.00/m2	We will baste your quilt in rows 10cm apart. This service is for those who want to hand quilt but have difficulty either with time or the dreaded pins.
All Over	$27.00/m2	The most popular way of sandwiching your quilt. Patterns include fancy flowers, leaves or stippling (meandering)as well as feathers, . It consists of rows of continuous quilting designs going from one edge of the quilt to the other. Go to Quilting Patterns to check out our designs.
Custom Design	$45.00/m2	Individualised designs are used and are created to enhance your quilt's overall appearance. Outlining individual pieced blocks, stippling in the background and selectively placed block design. This price includes one (1) border/block design.
Basic Binding	$5.00/m	Binding supplied by customer. It will be measured, cut and attached to the quilt. Customer to hand sew to the back.
Finished Binding	$12.00/m	Binding supplied by customer. It will be measured, cut and attached to the quilt. We will hand sew to back of quilt.
Cotton/Poly 60/40 Blend Batting	$17.00/m	Matilda’s Own 240 wide. Can be machine washed. Pre-shrunk – Pre-washed.
Wool/Poly 60/40 Blend Batting	$17.00/m	Matilda’s Own 240 wide. Can be machine washed. Pre-shrunk - Pre-washed
Wool/Polyester 60/40 Blend Batting	$20.00/m	Matilda’s Own 3m wide. Can be machine washed. Pre-shrunk – Pre-washed.
Polyester Batting 50 gram (Bra Wadding)	$10.00/m	140cm wide. Polyester Batting is ideal for kiddies quilts needing more washing.
Iron on Pellon	$8.50/m
Cotton Backing 240cm wide - Plain	$16.00/m	We have a select few of these colours. Mostly creams and beiges and black of course.
Cotton Backing 240cm wide - Patterned	$16.00/m	We have 25 different backing fabrics. Check out the colours on the shopping page.
Cotton Quilt Backing 275cm wide - Patterned	$20.00/m	Ideal for those larger quilts when no joins are wanted.
